Region 1 VHF/UHF band plan chart (unofficial, printable)
The 6 m, 2 m and 70 cm band plans for Europe, Africa and the Middle East: where CW, SSB, beacons, FM, repeaters and satellites sit, one table per band, plus the FM channels and repeater shifts on one page.
Indicative values; verify before use.
Unofficial chart. Our own layout of the IARU Region 1 band plans for 50, 144 and 430 MHz as published in the IARU Region 1 VHF Handbook, version 10.03 (February 2026) (source PDF on iaru-r1.org, last checked 2026-11-02). It is not made, checked or endorsed by IARU.
The band plan is IARU Region 1's recommendation to radio amateurs, not law. National rules always take precedence and can differ: band edges, power limits, modes and repeater channels vary between countries, and some countries allow only part of 6 m or 70 cm. Denmark: Digitaliseringsstyrelsen, Radioamatører. Germany: Bundesnetzagentur, Amateurfunk. Elsewhere, ask your national regulator or amateur radio society. You need an amateur radio licence (certificate and call sign) to transmit on these frequencies.
6 m, 2 m and 70 cm at a glance
- Max. 500 Hz: telegraphy (CW) and narrow MGM
- Max. 2700 Hz: SSB, CW and MGM
- Beacons exclusive
- 12 kHz channels: FM, digital voice, APRS and digital communications
- All modes: 20 kHz, 500 kHz or no limit given
- Satellites
- FM or digital voice calling frequency
Each band is stretched across the full width, so lengths are not comparable between bands. Text in the bars: maximum bandwidth in Hz, B = beacons, FM = 12 kHz channels, all = all modes. Numbers under the bars are MHz at segment edges where there is room.

- 2 m: 145.806–146.000 MHz satellite exclusive (allowed for amateur satellites since the 1978 Region 1 conference); 144.000–144.025 MHz satellite downlinks only. The Handbook encourages satellites to use 145 MHz for downlinks only.
- 70 cm: 435.000–438.000 MHz satellite service. Narrow DATV and experimental data may also use 436–438 MHz, but the satellite service has priority, and no fixed nodes, gateways, hotspots or repeaters are allowed there.
- 6 m: no satellite segment in the plan.
- Manned spacecraft (FM voice): 145.200 MHz simplex, or 145.200/145.800 MHz split.

Channel numbers: F00 = 51.000 MHz, +1 per 10 kHz (6 m); V00 = 145.000 MHz and U000 = 430.000 MHz, +1 per 12.5 kHz (2 m, 70 cm); R in front = repeater output (RV48 = output on 145.600 MHz). The Handbook does not print the 2 m shift as a number; 600 kHz is the distance between its input and output segments. Which 70 cm system applies is decided nationally.
Notes and definitions
- Repeaters: in Europe no telephony repeater inputs or outputs between 144.000 and 144.794 MHz, or between 432.000 and 432.600 MHz. New FM repeaters should use CTCSS (Handbook recommendation FM.24).
- 2 m: telegraphy is allowed in the whole band except the beacon segment, and only telegraphy in 144.000–144.110 MHz (apart from satellite downlinks); no transmissions below 144.0025 MHz (r). (b) beacon coordination: see the Handbook's beacon chapter; (c) if more repeater channels are needed, use a higher band; (d) established simplex use on repeater outputs may stay; (e) amateur satellites in 145.8–146.0 MHz; (f) no unmanned stations in 144.500–144.794 MHz except linear transponders and ARDF beacons; (i) simplex only, no digital voice gateways; (p) manned spacecraft.
- 6 m: (a) do not use 50.110 MHz for calling within the European part of Region 1. (e) wideband digital experiments in 50.5–52 MHz where local conditions permit, recommended maximum 50 kHz in 50.5–50.7 MHz, 200 kHz in the segment printed "50.9–50.2" (presumably 50.9–51.2 MHz) and 500 kHz in 51.4–52.0 MHz. (f) where 52–54 MHz is allocated, plan it as up to 4 × 500 kHz blocks.
- 70 cm: 430–432 MHz is planned sub-regionally or nationally. Analogue ATV and SATV are no longer allowed in 430–440 MHz since 1 January 2021, and ATV repeater outputs are not allowed. Data such as LoRa may use up to 125 kHz. All voice repeater channels may use FM or digital voice. Repeaters and links within 150 km of a border should be coordinated with the societies of the neighbouring countries. The footnote letters in the Handbook's 70 cm table do not match its notes, so they are left out here.
- Adopted in Vienna (September 2026), not yet in Handbook 10.03: 434.500 MHz as high-altitude balloon telemetry centre of activity, and no bandwidth limit in 144.500–144.794 MHz (VHF Newsletter 98).
- Abbreviations: MGM = machine generated modes; EMGM = experimental MGM; DV = digital voice; MS = meteor scatter; EME = earth–moon–earth (moonbounce); ATV/DATV = (digital) amateur television; SSTV = slow-scan television; ARDF = amateur radio direction finding. "No limit" = no maximum bandwidth given; "–" = column empty in the Handbook.
- The usage column is an agreement for operating convenience; nobody can claim a reserved frequency from it. Not on this chart: 4 m (70 MHz), 23 cm and higher bands, which are in the same Handbook; Regions 2 and 3 have their own plans. For HF see the Region 1 HF band plan chart; Q codes and RST are on the Q codes and RST card.
