Region 1 HF band plan chart (unofficial, printable)
The HF band plan for Europe, Africa and the Middle East on one landscape page: where CW, narrow digimodes and all-mode phone sit on each band from 160 m to 10 m, followed by a table with every segment and centre of activity.
Indicative values; verify before use.
Unofficial chart. Our own layout of the IARU Region 1 HF band plan, version effective 16 October 2020 (source PDF on iaru-r1.org, last checked 2026-11-01). It is not made, checked or endorsed by IARU.
The band plan is IARU Region 1's recommendation to radio amateurs, not law. National rules always take precedence: your licence conditions and your country's band edges, power limits and modes. You need an amateur radio licence (certificate and call sign) to transmit on these frequencies. In Denmark, certificates and call signs come from the Danish Agency for Digital Government (Digitaliseringsstyrelsen): digst.dk, Radioamatører. Elsewhere, ask your national regulator or amateur radio society.
160 m to 10 m at a glance, by maximum bandwidth
- Max. 200 Hz: CW, and the narrowest modes where stated
- Max. 500 Hz: narrow band modes, digimodes
- Max. 2700 Hz: all modes (phone, CW, digimodes …)
- 10 m top: max. 6000 Hz or unrestricted (all modes, FM)
- Beacons exclusively (International Beacon Project)
- Satellite links
- Guard channel
- Max. 20 Hz: weak-signal narrow band modes (60 m)
- Centre of activity
- Emergency centre of activity
Each band is stretched across the full width, so lengths are not comparable between bands. Numbers in the bars are the maximum bandwidth (BW) in Hz; B = beacons, G = guard channel. Numbers under the bars are kHz where the bandwidth class changes. Frequencies are transmitted frequencies, not dial (suppressed-carrier) settings.

Notes and definitions
- All modes: CW, phone and the modes named as centres of activity (digital voice, image), plus AM if adjacent channels are taken into account. Narrow band modes: any mode up to 500 Hz wide, CW included (RTTY, PSK …). Digimodes: any digital mode that fits the segment's bandwidth (RTTY, PSK, MFSK …). Image: analogue or digital pictures such as SSTV and fax. Automatic (unattended) data stations: the plan's "automatically controlled data stations", store-and-forward included.
- 1 Lowest LSB dial setting for voice: 1843, 3603 and 7053 kHz. 2 60 m: highest USB dial setting for voice 5363 kHz. On 20 m to 10 m the USB voice dial should be at least 3 kHz below the upper band edge.
- Sideband: LSB below 10 MHz, USB above 10 MHz; the exception is 60 m, where USB is recommended. CW contacts are accepted anywhere in the bands except in the beacon segments.
- No contests on 60 m, 30 m, 17 m and 12 m. During the large international contests, non-contest operators are recommended to use 30, 17 and 12 m.
- 60 m: the segments are proposed usage. Use the WRC-15 allocation (5351.5–5366.5 kHz) only if no other 5 MHz frequencies are available under your national permission; local nets and long chats belong on 80 m, national 5 MHz channels or 40 m.
- 15 m: since the 2020 revision, 21125–21450 kHz is designated for amateur satellites on a non-exclusive basis, with frequencies above 21400 kHz preferred. 10 m: FM repeater pairs RH1 = 29520/29620 kHz to RH8 = 29590/29690 kHz.
- Not on this chart: the 2200 m (135.7–137.8 kHz) and 630 m (472–479 kHz) segments of the same IARU document, and Regions 2 and 3, which have their own band plans. For 6 m, 2 m and 70 cm see the Region 1 VHF/UHF band plan chart; Q codes and the RST scale are on the Q codes and RST card.
