Colour code table (IEC 60062)
| Colour | Digit | Multiplier | Tolerance | Letter | Tempco ppm/K |
|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| Black | 0 | ×1 | – | – | 250 |
| Brown | 1 | ×10 | ±1 % | F | 100 |
| Red | 2 | ×100 | ±2 % | G | 50 |
| Orange | 3 | ×1k | ±0.05 % | W | 15 |
| Yellow | 4 | ×10k | ±0.02 % | P | 25 |
| Green | 5 | ×100k | ±0.5 % | D | 20 |
| Blue | 6 | ×1M | ±0.25 % | C | 10 |
| Violet | 7 | ×10M | ±0.1 % | B | 5 |
| Grey | 8 | ×100M | ±0.01 % | L | 1 |
| White | 9 | ×1G | – | – | – |
| Gold | – | ×0.1 | ±5 % | J | – |
| Silver | – | ×0.01 | ±10 % | K | – |
| Pink | – | ×0.001 | – | – | – |
| No band | – | – | ±20 % | M | – |
Grey as tolerance is ±0.01 % in IEC 60062:2016; older EIA marking (still used by some makers) gives grey ±0.05 %. Some makers use grey as a ×0.001 multiplier instead of pink, and yellow or grey instead of gold or silver on high-voltage resistors. If in doubt, measure.

A 3-band resistor has no tolerance band: ±20 %. Gold and silver are never a first band, so if one end is gold or silver, start reading from the other end.
- Yellow Violet Red Gold = 4 7 ×100 = 4.7 kΩ ±5 %
- Brown Black Black Red Brown = 1 0 0 ×100 = 10 kΩ ±1 %
- Orange Orange Black Brown Brown Red = 3 3 0 ×10 = 3.3 kΩ ±1 %, 50 ppm/K
